Ms. Samia Yaba Christina Nkrumah, Ghanaian politician and the first daughter of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah
Jamaica yesterday welcomed to our shores, Ms. Samia Yaba
Christina Nkrumah, Ghanaian politician and the first daughter of the late Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, world
renowned Pan Africanist, and the man largely responsible for leading Ghana to
its independence from Britain in 1957, eventually serving as the country’s
first President. On hand to greet her upon her arrival was a distinguished
group comprised of Mr. Benjamin Asamoah, President of the Ghanaian Association
in Jamaica (GhaJam), Mrs. Trefina Asiedu, GhaJam Board Member, renowned dub poet
and talk show host Mutabaruka and his wife Jacqueline Hope, also a collector of
artefacts, Mr. David Commissiong, Chairman - Caribbean Pan African Network, Mr.
Cikiah Thomas, Chairman - Global African Congress, as well as Publisher Ras Miguel
Lorne and Mrs. Grace Jutan, from the Office of the Vice Chancellor, University of
the West Indies, Mona.

Ms. Nkrumah was elected as the first woman Chairperson of
the Convention People’s Party, the political party formed by her father Dr.
Nkrumah. This appointment made her the first female chairperson of a major
political party in Ghana. She also served as the Member of Parliament for the
Jomorro Constituency winning the seat in the 2008 general election on her first
attempt.
Ms. Nkrumah will be making a presentation at an all-day
symposium that will coincide with the launch of the Centre for Reparations
Research. The event is scheduled for today October 10 beginning at 9 am and will take
place at the UWI Mona Visitor’s Lodge and Conference Centre. The theme for the
Symposium will be, “Post-Independence Cross Roads: Economic Growth, Sustainable
Societies and Reparatory Justice.” The event will be streamed online, and
