Abi Gaye Myrie, Founder and Host of Di Link Up Wid Abi

Launched only a month ago, Di Link Up Wid Abi is steadily building an audience, with more and more people tuning into to watch their inspirational and topical content. The brainchild of Abi Gaye Myrie, a second year student from UTech, Ja, the show focuses mainly on young people who have overcome significant struggles and are poised for success. Abi states that when brainstorming the concept of the show, she wanted it to have a twist,

“I decided to interview young people who have achieved a lot but are still fighting their way through challenges to do something greater.  I wouldn’t tell (their story) after the storm but during, which is where most young people are right now.”

Abi took much of her inspiration from Ian Boyne's popular feature show 'Profile', which celebrates 30 years on air this year. She is not only aiming for the same longevity, but also to have a similar impact, as she wants other young people facing challenges themselves, to see that they are not alone and also that no matter how difficult the obstacle may be, they too can rise above it.

Alrick "Tallent" Francis, first guest featured on Di Link Up Wid Abi

So far, Abi has featured two such young people, who are making their way through the fire. Alrick Francis, a recording artiste who goes by the name Tallent, was their first feature. In that episode titled “23 Days Before University,” Francis spoke of how God had provided for his tuition, though only a matter of days before starting UTech, Ja he was both broke and homeless.

I also had the pleasure of being featured on Di Link Up Wid Abi, where I spoke about my journey from being a college dropout to a published author and serial entrepreneur. The title of that episode is, “God’s Plan For Your Life.”

Abi, does not take all the accolades for Di Link Up Wid Abi’s success, crediting her partner Oshane Henry for his creative vision. Oshane, is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Augravi Multimedia, a photography and film company. The pair, who met through Abi’s twin sister, Tasha Gaye, have developed a great rapport, with Oshane not only acting as her technical partner, spearheading the filming and editing of the Di Link Up Wid Abi, but he also contributes to the direction of the series.

Of the partnership Oshane noted that,

“Abi had a great concept and (Di Link Up Wid Abi) was an avenue to really push Augravi multimedia further out there.”

As a young entrepreneur himself, Oshane wants this increased awareness to help build his brand identity, which he hopes will lead to him getting more projects. In addition he wants to use his experience with Di Link Up Wid Abi as a way to develop his skills in film production,

“The show will help me push my skills further as well as to help me practice. As the saying goes practice makes perfection,” Oshane commented.

Moreover, he says that he wants to produce great quality videos that people will appreciate, and hopes that Di Link Up Wid Abi will be a viewing experience that audiences look forward to.

As for Abi, she wants her show to grab a lot of attention, eventually securing sponsorship and expanding into something bigger. She definitely looks set for a career in media, so you should probably be on the lookout for Di Link Up Wid Abi, to debut on a station near you, very soon.

Suicide Cop by Rowen Antoine - A Public Service Announcement from ACRM

The African Cultural Renaissance Movement, a Student organization at the University of Technology, Jamaica dedicated to raising social and cultural awareness for the plight of the oppressed, the exploited and those under extreme duress would like to release the following Public Service Announcement.

Amidst the recent suicide by a member of the Police Force, as well as the gratuitous violence aimed at our Nation's Cops, the African Cultural Renaissance Movement (ACRM) alongside budding poet Rowen Antoine has sought to give a voice to those Officers who may be suffering silently, so as to encourage them to seek help instead of resorting to taking their own lives. ACRM also aims to spark the support of the public for these noble men and women who put all on the line to defend our State.

Straight Forward

I charge us to speak up and really think
Are we equally to blame in this social stink?
The crimes we see and never report
Driven by fear of a corrupt police force
The abuse of a child that we ignore
