As part of our heritage month celebrations, the African
Cultural Renaissance Movement (ACRM) will be hosting our third staging of our AFRO HAIR SHOW.
The AFRO HAIR SHOW is an annual activity that promotes the knowledge of our African Heritage through the
history that lies in our hair and seeks to create a space where black
women can celebrate their natural beauty.
The AFRO HAIR SHOW will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2016 from 10:00a.m. – 7:00p.m. The venue is the Caribbean Sculpture Park located in the centre of the University of Technology, Jamaica’s (UTech, Ja) Papine Campus.
The AFRO HAIR SHOW will showcase;
- Natural hairstyling techniques as well as
- Natural Hair Care procedures
There is also a “Best Natural Hairstyle” competition currently running
on Facebook. There are two categories;
- Best Locked Hair and
- Best Cornrows
Participants should take a picture of their Best Locked or Cornrow hairstyle
and post it on their page. The photos with the most likes will be declared the
winner. Visit us on Facebook @ACRMUtech for further details on the competition.
In addition, there will be an entertainment package between the hours of
3pm-5pm which will feature artiste performances, dub poets, drama and dance
pieces. A model segment showcasing afro-centric clothes and accessories will
follow the entertainment.
The AFRO HAIR SHOW is free and
open to the public. Come out and join us as we celebrate our women this heritage
month.
Sponsors for the event are Honey Vera Ltd, Nature's Pure Oils & Cosmetics and Signature Pieces.
